Experiencing a violent crime can be overwhelming. You may be dealing with trauma, financial stress, or uncertainty about what to do next. At VK Lawyers, we’re here to support you with clear, compassionate and practical legal guidance—so you don’t have to navigate the process alone.
The Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS) is the new Victorian government program that replaced VOCAT in November 2024. FAS provides financial help to eligible victims to support their recovery. One of the biggest advantages of the new scheme is that you do not need to attend court to apply. Our team can prepare, lodge and manage your application to make the process as simple as possible.
What Support Is Available Under FAS?
Depending on your circumstances, you may be able to receive financial assistance for:
- Counselling and psychological support
- Medical and health-related expenses
- Lost income if you were unable to work
- Safety and security improvements (e.g. lock changes, alarms)
- Damage to clothing worn during the incident
- Funeral expenses for close family members
The scheme is designed to be supportive rather than adversarial, reducing stress and helping victims focus on healing.

Seamless, stress-free, and handled by trusted lawyers.
Who Can Apply for Financial Assistance?

You may be eligible if you are:
- A primary victim directly affected by a violent crime
- A secondary victim, such as a family member who witnessed the incident or experienced trauma
- A related victim, such as the family of a person who passed away as a result of a crime
There are time limits and evidence requirements, so getting early legal advice is important. We can help you understand exactly what applies in your situation.
